2013/2014 Weekly Progress
5/9 - 5/23
Over the past two weeks, we have practiced clay sculpting, of which I have made two characters: one being an Angry Bird looking character that's blue, with a brown beak, brown brim cap hat, and a blue and red cape; the other being a rectangular cube-like character with white eyes, a white mouth, and some stylish white hair modeled with a devious smile. The week before I had spent modeling an axe within Blender and mostly completed it, however it is not textured yet, which I plan to learn in the next two weeks along with some additional freelance modeling in Blender. I believe I deserve 20/20 points for this review because of my hard work.

Over these past few weeks, I helped A LOT to setup for the Festival of the Arts, and have narrated and acted for about 2-3 weeks on a film that Tommy, Vincent, and Brendan and I have begun. Its plot doesn't make much sense at all, but we believe it will be comical to those who watch it because of its unpredictable narration and randomness. To do this, we simply used an online plot generator. I do not have photos of our progress, though decent, but it will however soon be revealed to the class when we are ready. For the next two weeks, as Vincent and Tommy edit the film, with me on stand-by to re-shoot a scene, I will for the time being work on Blender tutorials for 3-D modeling has interested me for awhile. I believe I deserve 20/20 points for my hard work.

I have been drawing various things for these past two weeks, not focused on a particular field of art at the moment. I believe I deserve a 20/20 for the past two weeks because I have worked all class period to be drawing these images. Over the next two weeks I may continue to draw various things without a particular focus. I want to get better at drawing whatever I picture in my head basically.

Within these two weeks, I have focused more upon drawing still life and objects in front of me to practice perspective drawing, and build my art portfolio to be handy in the future. I am still a bit rough on perspective so I will continue to practice it. In the coming weeks, I will continue drawing outdoor environments and nature and try to get a feel for drawing realistic lighting and shading (hopefully). I believe I deserve a 20/20 for this week due to my commitment to my current tasks at hand.

In these past two weeks, the finished demo for the map was displayed at STEM Fest along with a media reel of the AI and architecture models to be soon implemented into the map itself. For me, my work is basically done and I have given the map to the rest of the group to work on and test. So far, they like it! I have also began to practice some drawing and yesterday finished a portrait of "Scar" from Lion King. I have also played with the new Unity update that seems to have added new tree meshes, and then made a quick landscape of it and just messed with the lighting and such. These next two weeks I may lay back and practice some various types of drawing and art. I believe I deserve a 20/20 for these two weeks because of my dedication to help make a quality game that hopefully many will be able to at least try.

Recently, I have been working on the map - shrinking it, optimizing its performance. The reason for this is because: 1) the map is too big, 2) the framerate is horrid for the regular computers in Dockery's. At least I have already gotten compliments from my team that the map looks great. I believe I deserve a 20/20 for these two weeks because this map recently has been very difficult work. In the next two weeks, after the game runs smoothly and doesn't take 20 minutes to walk across, the buildings will hopefully be textured and AI implemented.

Back from Winter Break and full of new ideas, I have begun implementing the un-textured buildings that my team has modeled for me and started to place them strategically and to add some "rythym" to the map. I have also began filming a separate horror movie with a different group - the film of which will be short yet hopefully thrilling at the least. So far we are a good third of the way through the movie and will continue to film it this coming Saturday. With the game, I will take it home where I will have more time and freedom to work with it than the one hour a day I get at school (it's just not enough time for good progress if any)... In the next two weeks, the map should almost be done with the hopes that my group can complete texturing for each of the buildings. And for the film, hopefully that will be near done as well. i believe I deserve a 20/20 for this period for the hard work I've been putting into both projects.

Unfortunately, I am currently stumped as to how I will continue to design this map. I have been searching the internet frequently to find some ideas to build on. So far, I have redone the surrounding mountains and am trying to add some realism to them. I have also decided to extend the Castle Area so that maybe the village, on a lower elevation, can be included into a bigger space. Over the next two weeks, during Winter Break, I might redo or completely redesign this map layout, for it is slowing progress. I believe I deserve a 20/20 for this week because I have been working hard to try new methods to create an elaborate design of this map.

Over these two weeks, I have been mainly experimenting with the map for new concepts to its design. I honestly, at this time, find it less than satisfactory for the type of game my team and I desire to create. What I do not like about it is that there is very limited spaces to put a village and have a huge battle. Over the next two weeks, I will be researching concepts I can implement. I have however been creating a cave-like structure which maybe I can put an Easter egg or maybe some treasure - but that's just an idea. I have also made the surroundings for the castle area to be more "mountainous" and rugged you could say. I believe I deserve full credit for this week due to the lack of work time given for Thanksgiving week, which disallowed further progress than I should have so far. I continue, every chance I can, to work diligently on this game.

Terra-forming is now in business! The war-zone has been laid out along with a new entrance to the castle. The mountains, while still in progress, are getting a HUGE Hi-Definition upgrade while keeping the framerate at a smooth, playable rate. Due to a "black-hole"-like illusion glitch when walking close to one of these mountains, bounds have been made to cut-off access and avoid this glitch completely (saves us a lot of time and criticism). It was decided that since the area is mainly a war zone, the general flora will be dead and brownish and have a depressing feel to it in the epicenter of the map. In the next two weeks, I will hopefully finish laying out all of the flora, finish defining the mountains, and finally prepare the game for the incoming models for the castle, the village, and the NPC's. I believe I deserve a 20/20 for this week for the amount of work I have done.

Now equipped with new textures and custom-made trees have I now begun to experiment with painting and landscaping the terrain. As I was previously asked by my team, I will try to make the map seem less environmental than my last game, Isolation, whereas it took place in the middle of a forest ecosystem. However, this map is still far from being finished and I can tell already that it will require much tweaking afterwards.

I finally finished modeling the main map within our Castle Defense game, and have now begun texturing it. After this, I will then begin to add assets to the game, such as buildings, flora and the enemies (if finished). I deserve a 20/20 for this week for I have been constantly, for whole class periods, been working on the map in Unity and perfecting it before it is detailed. For the building I had begun in Blender, its progress has been postponed until I can get more progress on the map.

9/30 - 10/4 :
I began creating a 3-D model in blender of a medieval building or castle as a beginning prop for the Medieval Defense themed game - the map of which I have also began creating within Unity. Out of an effort score of 20, I believe I deserve a score of 18/20, because of the fact that I didn't really start this project until about the middle of September (I couldn't before then anyways). In addition, I am still an infant with Blender, and it took me awhile just to make the small amount that I did - but practice makes perfect. In the next few weeks, I plan to continue making the map, hopefully even finishing the landscape itself and begin to texture/paint/decorate it before the actual castle + village is implemented.
